Role Overview
We are looking for a Safety Officer to ensure safe working conditions and effective implementation of health and safety practices at project sites. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that construction activities are carried out in compliance with approved safety procedures, statutory requirements, and project safety standards.
The Safety Officer will coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, vendors, site workers and project management teams to identify hazards, implement preventive measures and promote a strong safety culture across the project site.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify unsafe conditions, acts and potential hazards.
- Ensure construction activities are carried out as per approved safety procedures, method statements and project requirements.
- Monitor compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and safe work practices.
- Coordinate and supervise safety arrangements for excavation, scaffolding, lifting, work at height, electrical and other high-risk activities. Read and review method statements, risk assessments, permits and relevant safety documentation.
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, vendors and site workers on safety requirements.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, inductions and awareness programs for workers and supervisors.
- Prepare and maintain daily safety inspection reports, observations, permits and site safety records.
- Ensure timely closure of safety observations, non-conformities and corrective actions.
- Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe occurrences and support preparation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager/Construction Manager and other stakeholders on safety-related matters.
- Monitor housekeeping, access routes, barricading, signage and emergency preparedness at the project site.
- Verify availability and condition of fire extinguishers, first-aid facilities and other emergency arrangements.
- Monitor contractor compliance with statutory safety requirements and project HSE procedures.
- Conduct emergency drills and support implementation of emergency response procedures.
- Identify recurring safety issues and recommend practical measures to prevent accidents and unsafe conditions.
- Maintain proper documentation of inspections, training, permits, incidents, observations and corrective actions.
- Support project handover activities by ensuring safety-related records and pending observations are properly closed.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of construction site safety practices and hazard identification.
- Good understanding of work-at-height, scaffolding, excavation, lifting, electrical and fire safety requirements.
- Ability to conduct site inspections, risk assessments and safety audits.
- Knowledge of PPE requirements, permit-to-work systems and safe work procedures.
- Good safety training, toolbox talk and worker awareness skills.
- Strong coordination, communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to identify unsafe conditions and recommend effective corrective actions.
- Knowledge of incident investigation and root-cause analysis will be an advantage.
- Good understanding of statutory and construction safety requirements.
- Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple site safety activities.
Qualification & Experience
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Safety, Fire & Safety, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in construction, real estate, industrial or infrastructure projects.
