Position Overview

The Power Electronics / Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, validation, and production support of mission critical power electronics and electrical systems used in defence, naval, industrial, and strategic applications.

The role involves working on rectifiers, inverters, power conversion units, monitoring systems, and embedded power control subsystems, supporting projects delivered to Indian Navy, Naval Aviation, Army, Air Force, and shipbuilding yards. Design activities are carried out at the R&D centre, while manufacturing and integration occur at designated production facilities, requiring close coordination across teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Power Electronics & Electrical Design

• Design and develop AC/DC rectifiers, DC/DC converters, inverters, and power distribution units for defence and industrial applications.

• Convert system level electrical requirements into detailed schematics, calculations, and design documentation.

• Perform component selection (power semiconductors, magnetics, capacitors, protection devices) considering reliability, lifecycle availability, and defence usage.

• Carry out electrical, thermal, and derating analysis to ensure long term field reliability.

2. Validation & Testing

• Support prototype build, electrical testing, and functional validation in laboratory environments.

• Assist in thermal, load, efficiency, and stress testing of power electronics hardware.

• Support EMI/EMC compliance activities in coordination with system and testing teams.

• Participate in qualification tests required for defence and naval applications.

3. Embedded & System Integration

• Interface with embedded systems teams developing control electronics, firmware, and monitoring features.

• Support integration of power electronics with sensors, control systems, and monitoring & management systems developed by the company.

4. Manufacturing & Lifecycle Support

• Work closely with manufacturing plants to support pilot builds, Production readiness, and testing.

• Provide design clarifications, resolve production issues, and support engineering change implementation.

• Assist in failure analysis, corrective actions, and continuous product improvement.

5. Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare and maintain design documents, test procedures, qualification reports, and interface specifications.

• Ensure adherence to company engineering standards, quality procedures, and safety requirements.

• Support internal audits and customer reviews related to power electronics subsystems.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• BE / ME in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics.

• Strong fundamentals in power electronics, electrical circuits, and power conversion techniques.

• Hands on experience in power supply design, testing, and troubleshooting.

• Ability to perform design calculations and interpret test data.

• Comfortable working in multi disciplinary engineering teams.

Preferred (but not essential)

• Experience in defence, naval, aerospace, or industrial electronics projects.

• Familiarity with rectifiers, inverters, embedded power control systems, or monitoring systems.

• Exposure to ISO driven development environments or regulated industries.

• Experience in supporting manufacturing and fielded products.
